About Our Litters

Grand Teton Miniature Schnauzer puppies are raised in our home with all the love and care they need. We begin training before the puppies even open their eyes by handling them every day to ensure they are used to human touch from the very beginning. And we use the Early Neurological Stimulation training method with all of our puppies from day 3 to day 16. The ENS is a training program that was developed by the military to help produce dogs that were healthier, more able to withstand stress and easier to train.

After the puppies are 4 weeks old, they will receive a weekly bath and brush. Early socialization and an introduction to crate and potty training will begin as early as possible to allow the puppy to have a smooth transition to their new home.

They are all raised in our living room, 'underfoot' with our 3 children and cat.

Purchase Price. No doubt, cost is important, but if you desire to purchase a Grand Teton Miniature Schnauzer, you need to understand that no expense is spared when we breed a litter.  The parents are fully health checked, the puppies are raised under the best conditions and eat premium foods.  Countless hours are spent socializing and handling the babies.  We want any puppies produced to be a companion you can cherish a lifetime, that has a stable temperament and healthy body. Our breeding program is small and we are extremely careful with what we produce and how they will live. These are our companions and house dogs; they don't live in a kennel or in the backyard, but with us in the house and on the sofa. They are part of our family and valued immensely. There are "breeders" out there that have a continuous stream of puppies in whatever coat and size or "Rare" colors (that usually come with a nice set of health problems). However, that is not how we operate, we take producing a litter very seriously and why we only have a few litters a year.

Visiting Puppies. For the health and safety of our puppies, we do not allow visitors to see the puppies until they have received their first booster shots from our vet at 8 weeks of age. Puppies are much like new born babies and rely on the immunity of their mothers and safety of our home to protect them from harmful viruses or disease they can contract being brought in from unknowing visitors. We understand this is inconvenient for those wanting to make their pick in person and understand if this causes you to go else wear to find a puppy. We respect your decision. But the safety of our puppies comes first as we also owe it to the other families waiting on their pups to keep the litter as safe and healthy as possible. This precaution is advised by our vet and we take it seriously.

Dewclaws Removed.  Our licensed veterinarian at 2/3 days old, removes the puppy’s dewclaws. This is a small vestigial claw higher up on the paw. We feel it is very important to have this professional procedure done, because leaving them can cause an important health issue later on in life. It is easy for a dog to tear or injure the dewclaw as he gets older. Additionally, the dewclaw does not serve any real purpose. Therefore, we have this professional procedure done on all of our puppies.

Tails Docked. All of our puppies will have their tail docked at the same time their dewclaws are removed. This is a professional procedure where a portion of the tail is removed. This is done for various reasons. The first reason is that the slimmer end of the tail can be damaged later on in life and result in injury to the dog. The second reason is for cosmetic purposes. If the tail is cropped at the right length the cropped tail looks great! Of course, tradition dictates the docked schnauzer tail. Our veterinarian is very careful about what length the tail is docked with beauty and functionality in mind.

Ear Cropping. The breed standard allows for both cropped and uncropped ears and has a very good description of each. Ear cropping is not a necessity and not recommended until around 12 to 13 weeks of age. Thus, we do not crop our puppies' ears.

Size. No one can perfectly predict what the size a puppy will be when it is full grown. I can only give you an estimate according to the parents' size and their past puppies. Sometimes puppies will pick up a smaller/larger gene and be larger/smaller than their parents.

Vaccinations. The health of our puppies comes first and foremost. Proper vaccination is very crucial for a young puppy. Just like a newborn baby they are very susceptible to infection. We vaccinate all our puppies to insure their health and well being. Your puppy will come with a vaccination schedule providing you with the vaccines your puppy has received up to the date of purchase and when its next vaccination requirements are due to complete the full series of puppy vaccinations. It is very important to your puppy’s health to see your licensed veterinarian regarding the vaccines needed to be fully vaccinated against susceptible infections and diseases. Once these are completed you will need to insure your miniature schnauzer has an annual vaccination as well, as well as a rabies shot. We recommend you do not take your puppy around dog parks and other places where there is high dog traffic until your puppy has received the full series of puppy vaccinations.

Wormings. Most puppies do get worms. Because of this health concern we deworm our puppies to make sure they can grow and develop into healthy miniature schnauzers. We deworm our puppies on a schedule beginning at four weeks of age and every two weeks thereafter until they are 8 weeks old. Your puppy will come with a deworming schedule providing you with the dewormings it has received.

Socialization. We began socializing our puppies from birth. We handle them ourselves as puppies to get them comfortable with human contact. Second of all, we began familiarizing them with getting their nails trimmed, taking baths, and being groomed. We try to expose the puppies as soon as possible to children, family, and friends once they have been vaccinated. We want our puppies to be well socialized so when they go to their new homes they will know a little bit about being a good citizen.

Registration Papers.  All of our puppies will come with either full or limited registration. We have American Kennel Club registered miniature schnauzers. You will receive the puppy's registration paper with your puppy.

Keep in touch: We ask that you keep us updated! We like to stay in contact with our puppies and see how they are doing. We especially like to see updated photos of your pup!  We will use these photos and stories you send to us on our website as well as our Facebook page unless you specify that you prefer to keep your personal information unpublished. We would still like updates and photos (if you are willing) even if you would like us not to post them. We are truly interested in following our dogs throughout their lives to gain insight into the coat, size and personality of our puppies.
